A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Dr. Everson C. Martin attended Lafayette Parish Schools and graduated from Northside High School in 2000. He earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Southern University and A&M College in 2005 and the Master of Music Education degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2011. In 2017, Dr. Martin obtained the Doctor of Education degree from Capella University with distinction.

Dr. Martin was appointed Director of Bands at St. Martinville Senior High School (St. Martinville, Louisiana) in the fall of 2005. During his tenure, he developed a comprehensive band program that consistently earned ratings of excellent and superior in marching competitions and concert band festivals, including superior ratings at LMEA District III Assessment. In addition, he served as Director of Helping Hands’ School of the Arts and Summer Enrichment Program in his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, and as a director with the Louisiana Leadership All-Star Marching Band in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, garnering national attention with performances in the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California.

In the fall of 2012, Dr. Martin relocated to Alcorn State University, where he has served in multiple capacities including Assistant Director, Chief Arranger, Associate Director, Assistant Professor, and Director of University Bands. Under his leadership, the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Band has appeared at numerous nationally recognized events, including the Honda Battle of the Bands in Atlanta, Georgia (2013, 2015, 2016); the Reese’s Senior Bowl (2019); New Orleans Saints halftime performances (2015, 2017, 2022); Disney HBCU in Orlando, Florida (2022); and a historic appearance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City in 2025. Dr. Martin also facilitated the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite High School Band Camp in 2016 and 2017, which attracted nearly 300 high school band students from Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama. His current responsibilities include administration of the band program, arranging music, directing the wind ensemble and saxophone ensemble, and serving as Assistant Professor of Music Education.

Dr. Martin maintains an active schedule as a university recruiter and mentor to emerging music educators. He is highly sought after throughout the Southern Region as an arranger, clinician, and adjudicator.

Dr. Martin holds memberships in numerous professional and social organizations, including the Minority Band Directors National Association, HBCU National Band Directors Consortium, Louisiana Music Educators Association, Mississippi Bandmasters Association, National Association for Music Education, Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society, Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

He is the son of Dennis Martin and the late Geraldine Martin. Dr. Martin is married to the former Twyla Johnson of Claiborne County, Mississippi, and together they have a blended family of five children: Twytyona, Tiaira, Tylen, Erin, and Emree’.
